I forgot to take an in-progress picture. I made a sgraffito tray with a winter tree carved into it. I created it using a pencil on soft clay because the tools didn't work as well. I used the pencil for the entire design, because the pencil allowed for fine details. The branches were very thin and the exact detail of the branches was easy to do with the pencil. My love for trees during the winter inspired me to make this piece. Also when I think of black and white, I usually think of winter. I think the fine detail of the branches is the most successful part of the piece. If I were to make it again, I'd clean out all the little clay balls created by the pencil. Also, I would make the two sides of the tree better proportionate and maybe add some snow. No, I would not sign up for sculpture class although I enjoyed making this piece.
